Storing Chainsaws In Off Seasons

When you are planning to store chainsaws for long term or until off season, it is important that you ensure they are clean and secured. Leaving them unclean and not paying attention to the machine can cause rapid corrosion, lubricants to turn dry and gummy, and creating a bigger mess when you retrieve them for use next season. Follow the below given steps to make sure chainsaws work fine after they are recovered from storage.

  • Step 1: Remove spark-plug wire of chainsaw from its socket, doing this will prevent the machine from turning on accidentally while cleaning. If you don’t know where the spark plug is, refer user manual.
  • Step 2: Remove loose chunks of debris and dirt with your bare hands. Then clean entire exterior of the machine, including the bar and chain with damped rag or towel. Time to time soak the rug or towel in clean water and squeeze it, and continue wiping it until it looks completely clean.
  • Step 3: Spray some alcohol on the saw. Pay special attention to the stained areas, rubbing the machine with alcohol will remove stubborn stains. Repeat the process if the stains are still there.
  • Step 4: Fill the oil reservoir with bar and chain oil, put back the spark plug wire and then switch on the chainsaw. Keep it on for few minutes, just to rev and warm up the machine. Don’t run it for longer as the purpose is to distribute the fresh oil all through the chain and bar.
  • Step 5: Let the chainsaw get cool completely. Cover it loosely with a packaging paper, preferably waterproof. When you are using water proof paper, make sure the water-resistant side falls on the outer side. Keep it in dry and safe place for as long as you want.
