How To Remove A Ride On Mower Deck

If you own a ride on mower, you may not have realized that it is sometimes necessary to remove the deck, which is located underneath the lawnmower and above the blades. This is because grass clippings and other debris are known to find their way into the mower deck, which then need to be cleaned out, and if driving over bumpy terrain the deck should be removed to prevent damage. But how do you remove a riding lawnmower deck?

Step 1: Ensure that your ride on mower is parked on level ground with the park break firmly in place. Shift the blade engaged lever into the disengaged position and the shift level into the lowest position.

Step 2: Remove the hair pins and washers from the front hole in each adjuster arm; you will need to look underneath the mower to locate these (there should be one hanging down on each side of the mower deck).

Step 3: Remove the hair pins and washers on each suspension link; you will find these on the back of the mower deck, sticking straight up and attached to the underside of the mower.

Step 4: Remove the hair pins and washers on both sides of the hanger rod; you will find this on the front of the deck. Pull the metal rod out.

Step 5: Remove the drive belt from the stack pulley; you will find this attached to the underside of the mower.

Step 6: The deck is now free; simply pull it out from underneath the mower and it is ready for cleaning or replacement.

Being sure to regularly remove your ride on mower’s deck for cleaning and damage prevention will ensure that your lawnmower will run at its optimum for much longer. Carefully reattach the deck, and it too will last a lifetime.
